Scottish bishops pray for wisdom for new PM

The bishops of Scotland have said they are praying that Liz Truss, who became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom today, will be ‘given the wisdom needed’ to address the issues facing the country.

Bishop Hugh Gilbert of Aberdeen, speaking on behalf of Scotland’s Catholic bishops, offered ‘congratulations and promise of our prayers’ to Liz Truss.

“We note that she became Prime Minister in Scotland after meeting the Queen at Balmoral, which is situated in the Diocese of Aberdeen,” he said.

“The bishops of Scotland are aware of the many serious issues affecting both our society and the wider world. We pray for the new Prime Minister, that she will be given the wisdom needed to address them with courage and compassion.”
