Bishop Gilbert appointed to Vatican role

Bishop Hugh Gilbert of Aberdeen is one of the new appointees to the Congregation for Divine Worship.

The Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments handles matters relating to liturgical and sometimes sacramental practices within the Latin Church.

Membership to Vatican congregations usually last five years.

Currently, the Congregation is led by Archbishop Arthur Roche, set to become a cardinal on 27 August.

The Congregation is set to be renamed to the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments once the new Vatican constitution comes in to force on 5th June.
